Prologue

I’m not particularly talented. I’ve just survived.

That’s what I typed into the company’s “AI Productivity Self-Evaluation” form.

Yes, it was a Google Form.

Click easy, die slowly.

These days, people have stopped relying on fortune tellers. They ask AI instead.

My company? No different. Once upon a time, we used our brains. Now we use… free programs.

At first, I thought AI would make our lives better.

But then, people started disappearing.

One by one.

Some never returned from WFH. Some vanished with their last cup of coffee from the pantry. Some ghosted out of Zoom calls—without a goodbye.

But the deadlines stayed. The KPIs stayed. The meetings—oh, they stayed.

Only the people were gone.

I remembered the Business Development team most of all. They were the human buffer that stood between my logic and the boss’s chaos.

From my desk, I watched them crumble under a slow, invisible, crushing pressure that drained the life out of the room. One by one, they broke and vanished.

And instead of any explanation from upper management, we got a Slack sticker: “AI to the Rescue.”
