It wasn’t a promotion. It was a confirmation. Like a brick quietly added to a shelf already bowing under its weight.

That’s how I knew I wasn’t leaving. Not yet.

No one told me to stay. But someone gave me ownership of a task I didn’t ask for. Then another. And another.

Suddenly, I was “the point person.” The go-to. The fallback. The one who never says no.

No title. No raise. Just more Slack pings and less time to think.
